As mentioned in my trip report, I’ve recently been to Maui the last three years and I have an amazing time every time I go. It’s the second most populated island and while the pace is slower than Oahu/Honolulu, it still has quite a beat in Kahului, Lahaina, Ka’anapali, and Wailea.

I haven’t been to the Big Island since I was a child. What I remember most about visiting was going to Kilauea Volcano, which is an active volcano that continues to flow hot molten lava for years now. We once did a helicopter tour at dusk, and the glowing red lava is still so vivid in my mind. I hope to visit Kona and Hilo again soon and see what new adventures await.

Growing up, I fondly called this island the “boring isle,” not because there isn’t anything to do, but because all the adventurous things to be done is outdoors, which I only do in small doses. Don’t get me wrong, the ocean activities are plentiful, there’s swimming, surfing, paddling, scuba diving, kayaking, parasailing, and catamaran tours (I did that a few years ago to see the Na Pali coast). And there are countless hiking trails throughout the state with beautiful views. The beaches are also crystal clear and relaxing. This island is perfect for outdoor enthusiasts.
